Martha Perez-Sanz http://krcc.org en Railroad West: Southwest Chief Faces Possible Colorado Derailment http://krcc.org/post/railroad-west-southwest-chief-faces-possible-colorado-derailment
Amtrak’s Southwest Chief is a long distance passenger train that travels daily from Chicago to Los Angeles. Some riders travel the full route, others use it as their primary transportation between shorter distances. The train follows the historic Santa Fe Trail, one of the oldest commerce routes in the American West. Along the way, it passes through Southern Colorado—Lamar, LaJunta, and Trinidad—and then into Raton in Northern New Mexico. But the rails are aging, and the Southwest Chief could be diverted, bypassing Colorado and Northern New Mexico entirely. A bill making its way through Colorado’s legislature would set up a commission to study the issue, as well as the possibility of adding a depot in Pueblo.
Wed, 12 Mar 2014 20:59:12 +0000 Andrea Chalfin, Martha Perez-Sanz & Maggie Spencer 16192 at http://krcc.org Railroad West: Amtrak along the Santa Fe Trail Volunteers Train for Phone Ops During Large Emergencies http://krcc.org/post/volunteers-train-phone-ops-during-large-emergencies
Trainings for volunteer call takers during large emergencies in the Pikes Peak region are taking place this week. It’s a collaboration between Pikes Peak United Way 211, the City of Colorado Springs, El Paso County, and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. KRCC’s Martha Perez-Sanz was at the first gathering and has this report.

Wed, 05 Feb 2014 15:31:07 +0000 Martha Perez-Sanz 14736 at http://krcc.org Volunteers Train for Phone Ops During Large Emergencies Group Releases Vegan, Vegetarian Business Directory http://krcc.org/post/group-releases-vegan-vegetarian-business-directory
Vegans and vegetarians in the Pikes Peak region now have a directory of like-minded businesses.
