KRCC'S MUSIC FORMATS

On KRCC you'll find a diverse and eclectic range of music. KRCC is a National Public Radio member station and we report to CMJ and FMQB. We have music shows in the following formats:

FREEFORM: The majority of KRCC's music programming falls under the "FREEFORM" heading. If we were forced to provide a recipe for FREEFORM, it might look something like this: 5 parts Rock (the alternative type, not the Bob Seager type), 1 part Folk, 1 part International, 1 part Alt-Country, 1 part Electronica, with a dash of New Age, Blues, Jazz and Reggae. No parts Justin Timberlake.

BLUES: KRCC has blues from the past the century and we play them every weekday at Noon.

CELTIC: KRCC features the music of Ireland and Scotland every Sunday evening.

JAZZ: KRCC plays JAZZ Monday through Thursday. From classic to contemporary, we spin it. We appear to lack the fusion / smooth jazz gene, however.

REGGAE: KRCC goes REGGAE every Sunday evening from 9:30pm till Midnight.

KRCC also has a number of SPECIALTY Music Shows, including VINTAGE VOLTAGE with GT (8PM, Saturdays, Produced locally, includes five decades worth of Oldies for the discriminating listener). You'll also find national programs like A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION, WHAD' YA KNOW, E-TOWN and THE THISTLE AND SHAMROCK that feature music in their programming.

At KRCC, we have no pre-programmed DJ set lists. The music you hear on KRCC is the announcer's choice. Unlike many stations, the announcers at KRCC determine whether an album is in LIGHT, MEDIUM or HEAVY rotation based on their choice to play that album, not a music director deciding what will get the most air-play. Essentially, the only constraints KRCC announcers have is that they must play four new releases every hour–their pick, and they must abide by the program's genre (i.e. Jazz for Jazz shows).

KRCC's Program Director is Jeff Bieri and Music Director is Vicky Gregor. You can reach them by email, jeff@krcc.org, vicky@krcc.org or by calling 719-473-4801 on Tuesday between 8:30-10:30am & 12:30-2:30PM, MTN.
