April 21, 2018 marks the tenth year that artists and independently owned music stores have come together to offer various promotions, performances, and parties all centered around music, and the people who make, sell, consume and keep it in the forefront of our cultural psyche.
It isn't only about vinyl - Record Store Day is a day set aside to celebrate independent music retailers, and the role they have played in shaping culture and community. This Saturday you will find music retailers throughout the state of Colorado, the nation, and the world participating in a campaign of music enthusiasm.
From wax, to shellac, to the 1950's era polyvinyl chloride, phonograph recordings became more commonly referred to as "records", and later "vinyl". Vinyl, in turn, gave way to the rise of cassette recordings in the 1960's, and the 1980's delivered digital formats.
Since the early 21st century, vinyl has made a notable resurgence among audiophiles, and music enthusiasts will most certainly be able to find new and old musical treasures in most any format as part of this Saturday's Tenth Annual Record Store Day.
