Andrea Chalfin: Top (Musical) Ten for 2013

Dec 18, 2013

Andrea Chalfin, KRCC News Director:
It should be no secret by now that I’m quite the music fan, so when Vicky asked me to participate in this year’s Top 10 list, it felt like a no-brainer.  The truth is though, I’m simply not as exposed to all the new releases in quite the same way as our amazing DJs.  So, we came up with a compromise:  two albums that pulled me in and refused to let go, and eight other stuffs that caught my attention.
Albums that Pulled Me in and Refused to Let Go:
Scout Niblett: It’s Up to Emma

Neil Young: Live at the Cellar Door

Stuff that Caught My Attention (Alphabetical Order by First Name):
Iron & Wine: Low Light Buddy of Mine [Ghost on Ghost]
Jim James: State of the Art (A. E. I. O. U.) [Regions of Light and Sound of God]

Junip: Line of Fire [S/T]
Mavis Staples: Every Step [One True Vine]
Nightmares on Wax: So Here We Are [Feelin’ Good]
Preservation Hall Jazz Band: Rattlin’ Bones [That’s It!]
Terry Gross: The Linda Ronstadt Interview [Fresh Air]
Tom Waits w/ Keith Richards: Shenandoah [Son of Rogue’s Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs & Chanteys]

Also, major props to all the Blank Tape guys and gals.  We're truly lucky here in southern Colorado to have such top notch talent that supports each other and the community. They put out some mighty fine records, too!
