Update, Thu 6:30 PM: A boil advisory is still in effect for residents of Manitou Springs. Crews have repaired a 14-inch water main that was damaged in recent floods, but officials are still testing the water for contaminants. According to El Paso County Public Health, water lines have been flushed, and test results should be ready by noon. Residents are advised to use bottled water, or to boil water for three minutes and let it cool before using. Until the advisory is lifted, residents should follow those procedures for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and preparing food.
Manitou Springs is advising businesses and residents to boil water after discovering a broken main after recent flooding events. City officials say no contamination has been detected, but the water main break caused a loss of pressure in some areas, which means the system may have been breached and contamination of the water supply may have occurred.
Residents are advised to not drink tap water without boiling it first for three minutes then letting it cool. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and preparing food.
Manitou Springs expects repairs to the main water line to be complete by 2 PM today; this advisory is in effect until further notice.
