Colorado Springs residents have until December 8th to apply for the council seat recently vacated by Joel Miller. KRCC’s Tucker Hampson reports.

Applicants must live in District 2 [.pdf], be at least 25 years of age, and both a US citizen and registered voter. The new council member will be expected to attend numerous meetings and events and meet the required minimum 30-35 hours of work a month.

Eileen Gonzalez is the City Council Administrator. She says it’s important that applicants are familiar with current issues in Colorado Springs:

"In terms of emergent issues, the issues that we’ve dealt with over the last year are budget questions, the evolution of the Council-Mayor form of government, retail marijuana, City for Champions, all those sorts of things."

Applications must include a detailed resume and a cover letter. The council plans to hold interviews in two weeks. The new appointment will take place prior to December 23, and will serve until the next city election in April.
