Fire in Pueblo County Prompts Evacuations near Beulah, Health Advisory

Evacuations are in place in Pueblo County due to a wildfire burning near Beulah. 

The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office is ordering mandatory evacuations of the entire Beulah Valley. Use Highway 78 to evacuate to Pueblo. See the map above for exact evacuation boundaries.

Evacuation includes, but is not limited to:

  • Oldham Road and Extended Oldham Road
  • Signal Mountain (use south exit for evacuation)
  • North Creek to Red Mountain Youth Camp
  • Pine Drive (use 12 mile as the preferred evacuation route)
  • North Signal Mountain Rd
  • Mountain Shadows Mobile Home Park
  • 2 mile radius of 8300 block of HWY 78 to include 3R Rd.

A Red Cross shelter has been established for evacuated residents at Roncalli Middle School, located at 4202 CO-78 in Pueblo. A second shelter is also being set up at the Southwest Motors Events Center at the Colorado State Fairgrounds. Access through the Beulah gate on the east end of the Fairgrounds. The Red Cross says the shelter "should be available to evacuees by midnight."

There is an animal shelter available for small animals at the Pueblo Humane Society, 4600 Eagle Ridge Pl.; large animals can be taken to the Colorado State Fairgrounds in Pueblo. 

Highway 78 is closed at Siloam Road and Highway 225 (the Y in Beulah).  County Rd. 3R is also closed from Highway 78 to N. Signal Mountain Road. Health officials have issued an advisory for people in Pueblo County, saying due to smoke in the area, those in Pueblo County with respiratory issues should stay indoors.

As of Monday, 10/3/16, 9:11 PM, the fire had burned about 3000 acres.  

The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office is reporting that Buelah is out of power.

Monday's red flag warning has been allowed to expire, but was in effect for much of Southern Colorado through 7PM, through the I-25 corridor and east, including Pueblo, El Paso and eastern Huerfano County.
