  • A water main replacement project on Pikes Peak Avenue in Colorado Springs has led to the removal of the city's second-oldest water valve.  The cast iron valve is dated 1888, and Colorado Springs Utilities says it was a key component of the city's earliest efforts to modernize its water system.  Now, Utilities says the removal of the valve is symbolic in its efforts to renew aging water mains.
