Seal Eggs, The Sound Of Helsinki, And The Doctor Is In On Air Check

May 5, 2018

On this  episode of Air Check, Dr. Steve Hayward -- co-host of A Day In the Life on 91.5 KRCC -- joins us for the musical roundtable discussion, Paulina Ukrainets talks with Colorado Springs based musician Gwen Wolfenbarger, AKA Seal Eggs, about her music and inspiration, and we have an in-studio performance from Briffaut playing a song from their newest release Helsinki.

PART ONE: THE MUSIC ROUNDTABLE

On each episode of Air Check, we pick a new tune or full length recording that we are especially excited about. On this episode, Professor Steve Hayward is the musical guest from our community who joins Jake and Jeff for the roundtable discussion on Air Check.

Jeff's Pick:

Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite - "When I Go"

Jake's Pick:

Snail Mail - "Pristine"

Steve Hayward's Pick:

AJR - "I'm Ready"

PART TWO: SEAL EGGS

91.5 KRCC's Paulina Ukrainets speaks with Colorado Springs-based musician Gwen Wolfenbarger, AKA Seal Eggs, about her music and her new single, "Sublimation”. Wolfenbarger's music explores themes of physicality, emotional attachment, and isolation through sonic layering of harmonies, synth sounds, with the occasional harp.

PART THREE: BRIFFAUT'S "DOMINO"

Long time local favorites Briffaut released their latest record, Helsinki, in Februrary. In honor of that release, members Daniel James Eaton and Alex Koshak came into the 91.5 KRCC Studios to play a couple songs from the new album and talk with Vicky live on air during her evening music mix. From that performance, we play the song "Domino" on Air Check.
