Stormwater Task Force Seeks Public Input

The committee tasked with addressing stormwater needs throughout the Pikes Peak region is hosting several community meetings to talk about their new draft plan. KRCC’s Tucker Hampson reports.

The Pikes Peak Stormwater Taskforce formed two years ago to address drainage systems in the region. The plans include improvements on Manitou Boulevard and bank stabilization on Monument Creek.

Task Force spokeswoman Rachel Beck says they’re focusing on long-term solutions.

"We want to make sure that we have the maintenance dollars available, for example," says Beck, "so that once we spend some money fixing some of these problems, then we can afford to maintain them, rather than the approach that we have been taking, which is basically we put a new engine in our car and then don’t change the oil."

The meetings are designed to gain public input, and are scheduled throughout July. The Task Force is looking to put the issue on this November’s ballot.

Future meetings:

July 10, Manitou Springs
Manitou Springs City Hall, 5:30-7PM

July 16, Colorado Springs
