It’s been over 40 years since the Apollo lunar module first touched down on the surface of the moon. So where are the colonies? The Mars missions? Why isn’t it The Future yet? In this episode of Off Topic, we speak with astronauts, writers and space experts about the past, present, and future of space travel.

 In This Episode:

Dr. Sandy Magnus–NASA Astronaut and engineer. Dr.Magnus spent 133 straight days aboard the International Space Station, and was on the crew of STS-135, the final mission of NASA’s shuttle program.

 

Dr. Geoffrey Landis–NASA scientist and award winning science fiction author. As a scientist, Dr. Landis is part of the Mars Exploration Rover mission science team and a researcher in the fields of interstellar propulsion and photovoltaic technologies. As a writer, he has won several major science fiction awards for his novels and poetry.

 

Dr. Leroy Chiao–NASA astronaut and engineer. During his career as an astronaut, Dr. Chiao traveled to space on four separate missions, including one 6 month stint as commander on the International Space Station.

 

PJ O’Rourke–Author, journalist, humorist, political commentator. O’Rourke is the author of many popular books, including Holidays in Heck and Parliament of Whores. He is the H.L. Mencken Fellow at The Cato Institute, and a member of the board of directors at the National Space Foundation.
