FEMA Opens Disaster Recovery Center

FEMA’s Disaster Recovery Center opens today for residents of El Paso County affected by recent flooding. KRCC’s Martha Perez-Sanz has more.

The Center takes the place of the city’s recovery facility after the federal Major Disaster Declaration was expanded last week to include El Paso County. FEMA spokeswoman Renee Bafalis calls the Center a “one-stop-shop” that aims to help residents with insurance and medical needs, among other concerns.

Those are the types of things we focus on, and we’re just waiting to see the numbers. We know that over the last several weeks there have been quite a few families in this particular area that have been affected.

El Paso County residents seeking assistance can register online or at the Disaster Recovery Center, where FEMA personnel will help them file for their specific needs. The Center is located at the Colorado Springs Fire Department Complex on Printers Parkway and is open every day from 9 to 7.
