Pueblo City-County Health Reports West Nile Presence
Pueblo City-County Health officials are warning residents of West Nile virus in the area. Mosquitoes have tested positive, but no human cases have been reported. Officials encourage residents to drain any nearby standing water, and to protect themselves by using insect repellants and covering up with long-sleeved shirts and pants during dusk and dawn. That’s when mosquitoes are most active. Symptoms of West Nile can include fever, fatigue, and a stiff neck, and usually occur 5-14 days after a bite from an infected mosquito. Three cases have been confirmed in Colorado, one in Delta County, and two in Larimer County.
