The membership drive is underway at KRCC right now, and for this episode Air Check we decided to take the opportunity to look back at some of our favorite artist interviews and in-studio performances that we've hosted at KRCC over the past few years. On this episode, we revisit a conversation with Shearwater frontman, Jonathan Meiburg, an in-studio performance from in/PLANES -- the new project of Haunted Windchimes members Desirae Garcia and Inaiah Lujan -- and an interview and in-studio performance from Neil Halstead of the legendary shoegaze band, Slowdive. All that plus a round-up of some of our favorite tracks from the last month and a remembrance of Prince, who died on April 21st.

PART ONE: A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE SONGS

Listen

This is the part of our show where we share some of the music that's been stuck in our heads the last few months. Here are the songs featured:

DMA's - "In The Moment"

Parquet Courts - "Human Performance"

Andrew Bird - "Capsized"

PART TWO: AN INTERVIEW WITH JONATHAN MEIBURG OF SHEARWATER

Listen

KRCC has been following the band Shearwater since it was formed in the late 90s by Jonathan Meiburg and Will Sheff of the band Okkervil River. The Austin, TX, -based group has released close to a dozen studio albums and has wowed critics and fans alike. Back in 2014, Vicky Gregor had the opportunity to sit down with Jonathan Meiburg to discuss his long musical career and his album Fellow Travelers, which features Shearwater covering songs by bands ranging from Coldplay to St. Vincent.

PART THREE: AN INTERVIEW AND IN-STUDIO PERFORMANCE WITH in/PLANES

Listen

Inaiah Lujan and Desirae Garcia have been making music together for years as members of the Pueblo-based Americana band, The Haunted Windchimes. The two recently embarked upon a new side project together called in/PLANES. In this segment, Jeff Bieri interviews the pair about their penchant for musical reinvention and hears a couple songs from their forthcoming debut release.

PART FOUR: SLOWDIVE'S NEIL HALSTEAD

Listen

Back in 2012, KRCC had the privilege of welcoming Neil Halstead into the studio for a conversation and and in-studio performance. Halstead was a guitarist, singer, and songwriter in the influential shoegaze band, Slowdive, which rose to prominence in the early 90s alongside fellow Britons My Bloody Valentine. In the years since Slowdive disbanded in 1995, Halstead has gone on to release several solo albums. In this segment he plays a couple songs from his 2012 release, Palindrome Hunches, and reflects on how his sound has softened since the Slowdive years.

PART FIVE: REMEMBERING PRINCE

Listen

Prince passed away on April 21st at the age of 57. In this segment we remember a music legend.
