‘¿Quién Are We?’ Podcast on Latinx Experience Returns for Season Two

Centennial, Colo., March 21, 2024 - Colorado Public Radio today announced its podcast “¿Quién Are We?” about “what it means to be Latinx, Latino, Hispanic, Chicana — or however you identify,” will return April 5 with six new episodes.

“When we finished the first season of ‘¿Quién Are We?,’ we knew that we were not done telling the powerful stories of Latino people from all over the country,” said Andrew Villegas, an editor on the show. “We were instead energized with a renewed sense of purpose to keep telling people about the things that drive us Latinos, rather than parroting clichéd stories about how we overcome adversity.”

The series features intimate stories centered on Latinos from all walks of life and is hosted by former CPR News host May Ortega. In season two, listeners will meet an anthropologist who fell in love with the biology of nature, two business partners with a history of being both enemies and lovers, and a woman whose work as a family trauma expert was shaped by her family’s transition from the Dominican Republic to New Jersey.

The first season was released in 2022 and was created out of discussions at CPR about how public radio might better serve and connect with Latino audiences. A recurring theme from conversations with listeners was a desire to hear about the lives and passions of Latinos. After the first season, “¿Quién Are We?” was recognized with a number of awards: second place for Best Podcast at the Society of Professional Journalists Top of the Rockies Awards, silver for Personal Lives Podcast at the New York Festivals Radio Awards, honoree for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Podcast at the Webby Awards, and others.

This season builds on the foundation of the first season with six fresh, new interviews. “You'll laugh, you'll cry, and most importantly, I hope you'll hear yourself in these new stories,” Ortega says in the trailer, which is available now.

The six new episodes of “¿Quién Are We?” will be released weekly on Fridays starting April 5. The trailer is out now on Apple, Spotify and wherever podcasts are found. For more information, visit quienarewe.org.
